How to Create a Little World Wanderers Notebook
One of the beautiful parts of Little World Wanderers is that the focus in on reading good books about other cultures while completing authentic crafts and cooking authentic recipes. However, it does lead some families to wonder, does any of this information even stick? We intentionally do not put worksheets, reading questions, or packet work into our units however, that doesn’t mean we don’t record what we learn. Today I’m going to share with you how our family notebooks with the Little World Wanderers units.
We use these spiral bound notebooks for most of our lessons in homeschool. I appreciate the affordability and versatility of these, at less than $8 for a pack of two, they work well for budgets. We order ours off amazon.
Each month there is a map included in the Little World Wanderers which we print out at 50% and trace into our notebooks.
On the first day of our new Little World Wanderers unit, we will find our new country in the atlas, color it in our notebooks and add major geographical features, like rivers, mountains, country boundaries. We also label major cities.
Throughout the unit we will add illustrations and sentences to our notebook page of interesting things we’ve learned. Most of these come from the books we read while others comes from the recipes or information in the LWW unit. I allow my daughter to take the lead on this, some books won’t have anything she wishes to record while others could take up the whole page.
It’s neat for me to see what is sticking for her during the units and having a permanent notebook for her to flip through and see what she has learned about each country as we complete units.
While note bookings isn’t necessary to the curriculum, we’ve found it to be beneficial. An alternative to ordering notebooks is printing the map page for each child and saving them all in a folder.
I hope this enhances your LWW units!
