The Beauty of a Homeschool Table

The Homeschool Table

In the heart of a home, where the light softly gleams,
A mother gathers her children, weaving dreams,
Around the table, in a circle so tight,
She kindles the flame of wisdom's bright light.

Books and papers, spread like wings,
Her gentle voice, with knowledge, sings,
From history's tales to math's embrace,
She leads them with a tender grace.

In the warmth of her gaze, questions unfold,
As curious minds, their thoughts behold,
She answers with patience, guiding their quest,
Each lesson a journey, each moment blessed.

She draws on the board, with chalk in hand,
Mountains of numbers, maps of the land,
Her children absorb, with eyes so wide,
The wonders of the world, side by side.

Their laughter mingles with serious thought,
As life’s precious lessons are carefully taught,
In this sacred space, they learn and grow,
With a love only a mother can show.

She reads them stories of days long past,
Of heroes and journeys that forever last,
Her voice a melody, soothing and clear,
Bringing distant lands and times so near.

In science and art, they find delight,
Exploring the stars, creating in light,
Her encouragement like a gentle breeze,
Helping them strive, eager to please.

In the quiet moments, a silent prayer,
For her children’s futures, bright and fair,
She pours her heart into each day,
Guiding them gently, showing the way.

Around this table, dreams take root,
In a mother's love, profound and astute,
A legacy of learning, deeply sown,
In the garden of home, where seeds are grown.

In 2020, my husband came across a beautiful Etsy shop that sold farmhouse tables. He was captivated immediately and couldn’t wait to order one.
Our first dining room table together was an old, round, Ethen Allan with spoon feet we found at an antique store in Virginia. It was one of the first pieces of furniture we could afford to “splurge” on so early in our marriage. We loved that table and treated it well. (If well is covering it in scratches, glitter, and acrylic paint.
More than 10 years later we upgraded our dining room table to a beautiful farmhouse inspired one from The Appel Shop. My husband spend time pouring over each table design and ultimately decided on one with a beautiful blue stripe running through it and matching benches.

It quickly became our favorite item in our home and we’ve begun the slow process of coving it in memories (with a strict no glitter policy). After having this table for the last couple years we’ve been incredibly impressed with the craftsmanship of the product and quality of the work. When it came time to update our homeschool room I knew I wanted to have an Appel table for our learning space as well.

The Appel shop is a family run business that began out of the desire to have quality, handmade furniture for a low cost. Owner, Tyler, began creating unique designs and began selling them on Etsy. His original 450sq foot workshop has now grown to a space close to 16,000sq feet. From a single craftsman to a flourishing team of employees, Appel continues to make beautiful pieces of furniture with the upmost care and attention.

We opted for two “Wren School Desks” to go in our homeschool space. I liked the versatility to having two desks we could arrange any way we wanted. The table top and the size can be customized to your specifications. We’ve also found that it wipes clean easily, which is perfect when you have kids who love crafts and painting.

Having two children with a large age gap means that our kids are never really doing the same lessons at the same time. Each of them having their own space is important for the various points of their education. I love that we can also put the tables together for when we do group work and have friends over for activities and book club.

Just like our dining room table, the Wren School Desk is absolutely beautiful. Our homeschool room is our “formal” dining room and the first space guests enter in our home. Having a learning space that is beautiful but functional matters to us. I know that they will last through our children’s homeschooling career and may even go with them when they leave the home as their first “grown-up” desk or dining room table in their first apartment.

These tables have added the perfect touch of beauty to our homeschool space and I’m so excited to see all the memories we’ll make around them.

The Appel Shop has many customizable options for a variety of tables, desks, and accessories. Each one is just as beautiful as the next.

We received one Wren School Desk in exchange for an honest review and sharing on social accounts. The second desk and original dining room table were purchased by us*
